iSail Whitsundays Contender Worlds at McCrae Yacht Club - Overall

by VR Sport Media 25 Jan 2018 06:48 GMT 21-25 January 2018

The 'Grand Finale' between the two mighty Contenders - Mark Bulka and Jason Beebe.

Two races were planned but light winds hampered the format so only one was held leaving Jason requiring at least five places to retain the title.

Beebe came off the start line like a bullet but close behind shadowing was Mark Bulka. By the gybe mark Mark was second and closing the gap fast.

Criss-crossing each over the beat, local McCrae Yacht Club sailor took the lead and never looked back until crossing the finish line. The new 2018 Contender World Champion, Mark Bulka, was crowned by his fellow club member and Emirates Team New Zealand America's Cup skipper Glenn Ashby.

Winning by chapters of the Frank Bethwaite book To probably misquote Frank Bethwaite, 'If in doubt, sail towards the wind...'. As I'm only on Chapter 3 of Higher Performance Sailing, perhaps evaluating exactly where the wind if from is covered in Chapter 4.... Posted on 20 Jun
