9-10 December 2017
When we arrived at 8:30 on Saturday the first thing that struck me was how cold and icy it was. There was a light dusting of snow over Cumbrae, but Arran looked like something from an Alpine ski resort. Nevertheless everyone rigged their boats and made a weird queue on the slipway, ready for racing an hour or so later.
The breeze was quite light, flicking about from somewhere near Cumbrae's north end. The races were all to play for with three separate race winners from the four races; Alastair Coombes, Me and Alex Cogan-Sivarajan.
The second day the wind was flicking around from the notorious Largs shore, leaving huge shifts which completely changed the order every few minutes. The day (and the regatta) was mostly won by Alastair, though Alex and Rory Gifford also won races.
The final standings were Alastair Coombes 1st boy and 1st overall, Rory Gifford 2nd overall and me in 3rd. Tess Crooks has a very good regatta and came 1st girl and 6th overall. Overall it was a cold but fun weekend with some good racing.
