Supernova End of Season Christmas Pudding at Bartley Sailing Club

by Christopher Hawley 2 Dec 2017 16:24 GMT 2 December 2017

15 Supernovas assembled at Bartley Sailing Club on 2nd December for their annual End of Season Christmas Pudding event. A light and shifty wind greeted those who made the journey, as well as damp and grey skies.

This fun event saw two traditional races followed by a personal handicap pursuit race. The morning was owned by Steve Hawley who scored two bullets, unfortunately for Steve that meant he would start in last place (7.5 minutes behind the first boat) in the prize race.

Over a great lunch, the annual prize giving for the Noble Marine Travellers Series' was held. Over 120 helms took part in the series and the class is very grateful to Noble for their continued support.

  • Tim Hand was 1st overall
  • Tom Chadfield was 2nd overall
  • Nick Whiles took part in the most events

In addition, the class chairman awarded the discretionary award to Frank McMullen of Bolton sailing club. Frank has injected fantastic energy to the Bolton Supernova fleet both for club racing and getting them to take part in travellers' events.

Back to the pudding race and a creative running start worked well will all boats getting away cleanly. It was Mike Malcolm who took the lead early and pulled out a clear lead from the chasing pack. However in the dying breeze Chris Watts popped up from nowhere to take the overall win.

Special mention to Sam Knight who finished 3rd having started 7 minutes from the front.

Overall Results:

1 Chris Watts

3 Sam Knight
4 Dave Stephen
5 Neil Bonham

7 Ken Saunders
8 Howard Eales
9 Andy Flitcrofy
10 Tom Baldwin
