RC Laser Travellers Trophy at Ayr Bay Model Yacht Club

by Patrick Johnston 3 Oct 2017 09:41 BST 24 September 2017

The Boating Pond at Irvine Beach Park has been weeded up since early June, but the season and some clearing efforts by the Ayr Bay club nearly succeeded in making it weed-free, but not quite.

All were affected at some point in the day, but the pain seemed to be evenly spread around and the results were a fair reflection of the 12 skippers' skills.

The weather was wet and the SE wind generally light, veering slightly over the day. Competition at the top of the fleet was intense, with Ayr Bay member Robert Rooney just pipping David Fowler for overall first after 18 races.

Many thanks are due to Bill Lees and his team who kept the race management, and catering, at a high level on a wet day.

Sun made wing mark and leeward marks often impossible to see Having lost round 8 to very high winds we were not going to let a bit of snow stop the racing. Again a stark contrast in the weather here gusty winds of 28-32 kts were replaced by NW backing W 8 – 12 kts. Posted on 3 Feb

A stark contrast to the previous week Round 7 brought a stark contrast to the previous week where gusty winds of 19-20 kts from the NW were replaced by ENE and below 10kts. The wind direction provided a course with a start line that was a little distance from the shore. Posted on 21 Jan
Medway RC Laser Winter Series round 6
A series of elegant pirouettes loses one race Round 6 sees us half-way through the Winter Series. Numbers remain excellent at eleven starters in Round 6. Gusty winds of 19-20 kts from the NW meant for a very lively session. The normal course of triangle/sausage was adopted. Posted on 15 Jan

Some skippers have defected to the Dragon Flight 95 Just for a change, the 2019 sailing schedule had a few changes for the Winter series. The Dragon Flight 95 was to be included in alternate race days with the smaller DF65. Many at Southport have the bigger boat so it seemed a logical addition. Posted on 10 Jan
