Racing Underway for World's Top Match Racing Skippers; Yesterday's Racing Postponed Due to Lack of Wind

Oyster Bay, N.Y. (August 25, 2000) - The Rolex Thompson Cup, presented by Condé Nast Publications and Self magazine, is currently underway on Long Island Sound, off of Oyster Bay, N.Y. Racing in 23-foot Sonars, 12 of the world's top women match-race skippers are competing in a double round-robin elimination series. The regatta was scheduled to begin yesterday, August 24, but a lack of wind caused all sailing to be postponed until today. Racing is expected to continue through the weekend with the completion of the round robin, and then the best-of-three-races semifinal round. The final round (first team to win two races) is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 27.
