Sports boats revel in big breeze

With the southerly wind gusting to 30 knots on occasions against an ebb tide, 36 boats turned out for the fourth Lymington Town Sailing Club (LTSC) Solent Circuit race on Sunday (October 30).

In the conditions, a beat to Yarmouth and a run back to the committee boat at Pylewell was testing enough for one cruiser to lose its mast.

However the big breeze was enough to attract six Laser SB3 sports boats out and they revelled in condition which others found fairly miserable. The sports boats get two windward-leeward races and the breeze was such that the course was lengthened for the second race to give competitors more time on the water. Rick Otten continues to dominate the class but the rest are clearly catching up.
