Rooster Southern Area Topper Traveller Series 2017

The Notice of Race and events calendar for the 2017 Southern Area Topper Traveller Series are now available directly for review on the Topper UK website in the relevant 'Southern Area' section here.

Once again for this year, we are extremely grateful to those nice people at Rooster Sailing for kindly sponsoring the series and whom will be providing the much sought after and coveted embroided visors which are so popular with the sailors to try and win one.

2017 events for 5.3 and 4.2 rig sizes: (series results will be based on 5 events sailed)

  • Traveller 1: Spinnaker SC - April 9th
  • Traveller 2: Warsash SC - May 21st
  • Traveller 3: Poole YC - June 11th
  • Traveller 4: Stokes Bay SC - July 1st
  • Traveller 5: Chichester YC - July 9th
  • Traveller 6: Burghfield SC - September 2nd *RYA Zone Squad selector event
  • Traveller 7: Island Barn SC - September 9th
  • Traveller 8: Bosham SC - October 8th
In addition, a final season event will take place – the 5.3 / 4.2 Southern Area Championships at Hill Head SC on October 22nd and this will be run as a stand-alone event.

Open Coaching Programme

In order to support the development and skills of junior sailors and build race confidence throughout the season, 6 open coaching days have been organised and which will run on the following dates:

  • Spinnaker SC - April 8th
  • Warsash SC - May 20th
  • Poole YC - 10th June
  • Chichester YC - 8th July
  • Bosham SC - 7th October *RYA Zone Squad selector event
  • Hill Head SC - 21st October

Salcombe Yacht Club Summer Series Race 1
Breeze up on a Saturday for the first time in a long time For the first Saturday in a long time the breeze was up, competitors enjoying a force 4 north easterly at the top of the tide. The Race Officer set a classic 'around the creeks' course to make best use of conditions. Posted on 11 Jun
Toppers at Staunton Harold
Midland Travellers' Series Round 3 The Midlands Topper sailors began the week looking ahead to this event with a wind forecast of over 10 knots. As the week progressed their enthusiasm was dampened by the gradual slide in numbers to finally read 4 gusting 5 knots on WindGuru. Posted on 10 Jun
Toppers at Horning
A strong turnout of 22 helms for Eastern Travellers' event Horning Sailing Club was host to a Topper Traveller event on Saturday 9th June 2018, attracting a strong turnout of 22 entrants including 11 visitors from both local clubs and those further afield. Posted on 10 Jun
Rooster South East Topper Traveller at Broadstairs
Frustratingly light winds, then a thick mist The Topper South East Traveller attracted only eleven sailors to try their skills on the tidal waters off the Kent Coast. The forecast was not the best with very light winds and this was what they found. Posted on 8 Jun
Toppers at East Lothian
Fogs and calms less important than ice creams Last weekend was the final Scottish Topper Traveller of the 2017/2018 series held in North Berwick. 18 boats showed up ready to race (in the fog!). Rooster South East Series event Something put off Topper sailors coming to the event this year. Perhaps post-Royal Wedding exhaustion? Probably a clash with a Zone Squad event and possibly an uninspiring weather forecast. Posted on 28 May
Toppers at Papercount
Rooster South East Travellers' Series continues With a front coming in earlier than expected on Saturday, the forecast for the event dropped from 10 knots to 3 knots for the day from the North West, which for Papercourt is not the preferred or prevalent direction. Posted on 21 May
