The pontoons on Quay Louis II are buzzing with youngsters as more than 220 Laser sailors get set for the Monaco Europa Cup organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco. For some, it is their first time on the Monaco race area, but for many a chance to tackle it again.

"It's one of the last events of the year and for many the final regatta before the Youth World Championship in New Zealand," comments Jean-Luc Michon, President of Eurilca, the European Laser Federation, "so it is a very important event for these sailors. And above all a choice venue for them to compete on."

While waiting for the first warning signal tomorrow, Saturday 3rd December, competitors are fine-tuning rigs, discussing tactics with coaches or just chatting about sailing with other teams. It has been a fine sunny day, ideal for taking the temperature of the event before it all gets serious tomorrow, starting at 10.00am.

Programme:

Saturday 3rd December
10.00am: 1st warning signal

Sunday 4th December
11.00am: 1st warning signal
Prize-giving after the last race

A strange day at the event It was a strange day at West Riding Sailing Club on Saturday 27th April. There was some wind for the ILCA (still Laser as far as I am concerned) Open Meeting for the first time in living memory, and Ian Jones didn't win it. Posted on 1 May
Grabbing chances with both hands
Can bad weather actually lead to more sailing? There's been no getting away from the fact that it's been a pretty miserable start to 2024 weather-wise in the UK.
