Applications for the British Keelboat Academy close at 9 am this coming Monday the 24th October. Aimed at sailors between 18-24 years old the BKA offers training to help young sailors transition from dinghy racing in to yacht and keelboat racing or to build on their existing skills.
The RYA will be working with a number of partners over the winter to help deliver these training programmes and give sailors the opportunity to join campaigns in the 2017 season to further develop their racing experience.
The UK Etchells Class will be providing focused training from their Cowes base over four weekends with the sailors given the chance to compete for a fully funded Etchells to campaign themselves over the season.
Key Yachting, UK distributors of J/Boats and Grand Soleil, will be working closely with us to provide inshore yacht race training over the winter and then working with the sailors to place them with campaigns for the 2017 Season.
The Offshore Squad will be working with seasoned offshore campaigner, Jack Pringle, who has recently purchased a Beneteau First 50 to campaign in the Rolex Fastnet race and associated qualifiers.
The BKA is a great way for sailors looking to develop their keelboat and yacht racing to build relationships with owners and to start their network of contacts. Anyone interested in applying should visit www.rya.org.uk/programmes/british-keelboat-academy/Pages/how-to-apply.aspx or email for more information.
