Yachting Developments New Zealand Match Race Championship - Day 2

by Georgia Witt 14 Oct 2016 10:16 BST 12-16 October 2016

All teams started today with both pools completing the fleet racing stages of the regatta.

Starting off with Pool A we saw two races completed with olympic medallist laser sailor, Sam Meech, coming into his own and dominating with two firsts. He was closely followed by New Caledonian team Alan Quere and coming in at third was MCC skipper David Wood. In Pool B we saw Sutherland continue his streak with a first and a second. Following him was Australian Dave Chapman with a first and a third and sitting in third was RNZYS YTP skipper George Anyon. The top skippers managed to produce consistent results in the tricky conditions.

Combined fleet racing results see Sutherland sitting comfortably in first, Meech in second followed by Chapman in third. The top thirteen skippers will advance straight into Super Sixteen.

Those sitting in places 14-19 raced in the repecharge for final placings with RNZYS YTP skipper Patrick Haybittle, Erica Dawson and Fransisco Kayrovz all winning the their matches to round out the top sixteen.

This ends the fleet racing stages of the regatta so now we move into the Match Racing segment of the regatta which is more intense, one on one style of racing. The link for the pairings for tomorrow is as follows: Race management is looking forward to getting into the America's Cup style racing and the challenge of a new racing format. This new schedule will also be a challenge for the competitors.
