Wildwind Rooster Laser Midland Grand Prix at Staunton Harold Sailing Club

There was an excellent turnout for this, the final event of the Wildwind Rooster Laser Midland Grand Prix Circuit at SHSC with 35 entrants from the home club and 11 travellers.

The racing began in glorious sunshine although the wind was a cool, light to moderate northerly, enough to provide good racing for the fleet. The first race saw Richard Mason from NCSC winning from Matt Lathoud and John Blundell from the home fleet – and there was good competition right down the order.

The second race saw the wind drop slightly and some start line shenanigans with a recall, a black flag and 3 disqualifications. The fleet was clear away on the third attempt and close racing saw John Ling (Bartley SC) winning from Corey Newton SHSC and Richard Mason.

For the final race the wind faded away to the lightest of breezes and the fleet made a stately procession round the course – John Ling again taking line honours from Andy Allen (Trimpley SC) and Paul Williamson (SHSC). At the final reckoning John Ling took the event and was the overall winner of the Laser Midland Grand Prix series. SHSC sailors showed the depth of talent in the club by providing six of the top 10 places.

Thanks to all those who helped – the Comet and Solo fleets for providing excellent food and the race team led by Tim Gray for providing good, competitive courses.
