EGNOS 52 SUPER SERIES Cascais Cup - Day 2

by 52 Super Series 12 Oct 2016 19:03 BST 11-15 October 2016

No Racing. No thoughts about the winning line.

After a long delay waiting for the breeze to build and settle racing at the EGNOS 52 SUPER SERIES Cascais Cup had to be abandoned today after one upwind and part of a downwind. A big, heavy rain squall blew through, bringing a shift in the wind direction of 100 degrees, upending the race course.

The race officer quickly made the decision to abandon the contest. A further wait was finally ended when it became obvious that the leaden, dark rain clouds were continuing to play havoc with the breeze for the foreseeable future.

If conditions allow then the race management team will try to complete three races Thursday and Friday.

With three days of the 2016 season left, Quantum Racing have a lead of 63 points with a maximum of 70 points left were they to finish all the possible remaining races.

"We really are not thinking in these terms at all." Skipper Ed Baird commented, "I guess there are a lot of different calculations you can do. There are catastrophic things that could happen which of course we hope won't happen. But we are close and it is exciting. What we are doing right here right now is only thinking about winning this event. We are looking to claw our way into the lead and have three solid days ahead of us."
