Rooster Midland Solo Series at Notts County Sailing Club

by Kevin Andrews 12 Sep 2016 08:20 BST 10 September 2016

On 10th September 2016, Notts County Sailing Club hosted the 8th round of the Solo dinghy Rooster Midland Series. Twenty two boats entered despite it being a wet day with light and variable winds forecast.

Nadina Lincoln, the Race Officer, had the unenviable task of setting the courses in a constantly shifting wind. Given the forecast for decreasing wind in the afternoon 2 races were run back to back before lunch.

The first race in a predominantly 5 knot wind was won by Simon Maskell followed by Oli Wells and Steve Thomas. For the second race the wind increased to about 8kts and saw Nigel Davies win with Bob Suggitt second and Stephanie Gunn third.

So it was really anyone's meeting in the final race. By the time it started the wind had dropped to 4kts and decreased further during the race. This race saw Simon Maskill win with Oli Wells second and Nigel Davies third.

Overall the event was won by Simon Maskell from Hunts SC, Nigel Davies from Draycott SC was runner up, with Oli Wells from Northampton SC third. In fourth place was Stephanie Gunn from Notts County SC.
