August Regatta at Bala Sailing Club

by John Hunter 7 Sep 2016 17:42 BST 27-28 August 2016

Thirty-seven boats made it to the start line for Bala's August Regatta, despite a forecast of virtually no wind.

The wind did however come, & over the course of the 3 days, we got in some good racing. Boats were split into 3 separate fleets, Handicap, Assymetric & Supernovas, for the 8 race series.

The Handicap fleet was dominated by Matt Biggs & John Hacket of Blithfield in a Merlin Rocket who won every race but one.

Equally consistent were the scorpions from Penine SC of Ann Whitfield / Paul Newman, & Terry Flanigan / Dave Thompson as they battled for second & third places.

Just one point difference eventually sealed it for Ann.

In the Assymetric fleet the win went to local Mike Allen in his Devoti D One, followed by the Vago of Paul Fuller & Vicky Rose of Redditch SC, & in third place another local, Dan Partington in an RS100.

The Supernova Fleet were also very close on points, with the overall win going to Stephen Hawley from Bartley SC, then Paul Earnshaw from Haversham SC & in third place Paul Undrell from Milton Keynes.
