Contender European Championship at Highcliffe Sailing Club - Preview

Highcliffe SC is gearing up to welcome the Contender European Championship sailors in Christchurch Bay from 3rd – 9th September. So far the event has attracted over 70 competitors from eight different countries and is shaping up nicely to be a right battle royale.

The practice race scheduled for Sunday 4th looks like it might start in some pretty drizzly, floppy weather but the long term forecast for the rest of the week looks optimistically fine. That said, however, it may not bring the wild and windy weather our resident former World Champion and current National Champion, Simon Mussell may be dreaming of.

In fact with the week's social calendar packed with pasta and beer evenings, there may be more than just Simon hoping for some fresh winds to get them out on the wire and flying.

Fit, ready and racing along side Simon will be his mate and chief organiser of the event Gary Langdown, who left his compatriot chasing his transom in both races the last time they went head to head in Christchurch Bay. Will this be Gary's year?

Highcliffe SC's resident roving reporter will also be out on the water every day, hanging around the wing mark watching out for granny tacks and any unorthodox manoeuvres to feature in her daily race report. You have been warned. Team NobTag: all stories will be eagerly devoured.

So, for all those Contenders sailors who still have any energy left for the Europeans after this year's run of World Championships, National Championships and Open Meetings, we at Highcliffe SC wish you good racing and may the wind gods blow.
