Spinlock to showcase award-winning products to commercial marine industry at SMM Fair

by Sarah Griffin 24 Aug 2016 14:21 BST 6-9 September 2016

Spinlock is set to showcase two new products at SMM, the world's leading trade fair for the maritime industry, as they expand on their market share in the commercial marine sector.

The British-based company, who design and manufacture their products in the UK, will present the multi-award winning LumeOnTM lights at the event. Taking advantage of modern LED technology, the tiny LED lights attach to a lifejacket's bladder, turning the whole lifejacket into a glowing light. This innovative, yet simple product, further improves Man Over Board (MOB) identification and recovery in a cost-effective way. Lume-OnTM flash for two hours, are sold to work alongside lifejacket lights and will retro fit all lifejackets with separate bladder and cover construction. They will be fitted as standard to all 2016 award-winning Deckvest 5D lifejackets.

The second new product to be showcased at SMM is the Deckvest Duro. Developed in response to increasing professional demand across the whole the commercial sector, the lifejacket can be worn for long periods of time, without interfering with professional performance.

Myles Uren, Spinlock's Deckware Manager, comments: "Until now, commercial marine lifejackets have not been designed for continuous or comfortable wear. Despite marine professionals spending long hours in their lifejackets, they have been typically heavier, more cumbersome and unnecessarily tiring to wear. We have challenged this convention with our innovative design, as it significantly reduces the impact on the wearer and therefore helps them to stay more alert whilst at work."

The commercial sector is already benefitting from Spinlock's pioneering new Deckware products. Seacat Services operate a fleet of multi-purpose offshore energy support vessels typically work off the UK coastline, Denmark, Germany, the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Managing Director, Ian Bayliss, says: "Our crews much prefer the Spinlock lifejackets. They have to wear survival suits when the water temperature is below 12 degrees or it is dark. As they work 24/7 365 days a year, this is a large proportion of their time. Survival suits can be extremely cumbersome - to then put a traditional bulky lifejacket on top inhibits the crew's ability to work. It is vital that we do anything we can to reduce this issue and the Spinlock lifejacket range is a real help."

Spinlock CEO Chris Hill comments: "We are excited to be attending the SMM Fair for the first time. Our two new products have been specifically designed to address key issues faced by the commercial marine industry and we are looking forward to explaining the benefits they offer."

2016 has been another successful year for Spinlock with their products winning a number of awards and the company as a whole being awarded the coveted Queen's Award for Enterprise (International Trade), thanks to their consistent and impressive market growth in international markets.

The expert team is looking forward to welcoming visitors to their stand at SMM as they display a complete range of new lifejackets and safety equipment for the commercial marine industry. They will be offering demonstrations on all products throughout the three-day SMM Fair from the 6th-9th September.
