Zhik 2016 66th Cadet National Championship at the WPNSA - Day 1

by Simon Butterworth 24 Aug 2016 08:47 BST 22-26 August 2016

Day one of the 2016 Zhik Cadet National Championship saw excellent conditions. The first four races were completed and were very competitive across throughout the fleet of 50 boats.

Cara Bland and Ines Green took the honours in the first race with fellow Waldringfield SC sailors, Ellie Wootton and Amelia Mayhew following in second with Megan Ferguson and Yasmin Sfaxi taking the final podium position.

Race Two with Megan and Yasmin climbing up to secure their first bullet of the week and top Belgium boats, Boven and Marien with Dirix and Perko giving chase to stay ahead of the GBR pack in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The GBR World Team sailors (Jamie Harris, Hattie Colleridge, Ellie Wootton and Megan Ferguson) took the first four places in Race Three showing great form before they travel to Argentina in December.

The wind was starting to drop significantly in the fourth race and was finished early by the PRO at the leeward mark - Jamie Harris and Antonia Wilkinson collected their second bullet of the day but Ferguson and Sfaxi clinched another top 3 result ensuring the Frensham Pond sailors took the lead over night with consistent low scoring results.

Anna Wootton with Imogen Mayhew are leading the Silver fleet as well as many of the Gold competitors too.
