Night Series at Port Edgar Yacht Club

by Nigel Duncan Media 30 Sep 2005 11:21 BST

Dunfermline based sailors came out on top in the popular Night Series organised by Port Edgar Yacht Club. Local car dealer John Murphy claimed first place in the Fast Yacht class in the last three of the five event series to win the overall prize. He skippered his Jeanneau SunKiss called Alouette to six points, 15 points ahead of second-placed Kiss, an X302, owned by Andrew Downie from West Lothian. And third in the hotly-contested section was Absolutely 2, a Mumm 36 owned by a Fife-based consortium, who totalled 23 points from only four starts.

Force five to seven west winds buffeted crews in the final race on September 28 but Dunfermline's John Mitchell claimed first place to seal overall victory in the Slow Yacht class. Mitchell's H boat called Highlander won three of their five starts to take the title by two points from Edinburgh-based Arthur Dickson's Dufour 1800 called Auberge and he was seven in front of Bruce Walker also from Edinburgh in Salmon, a Sonata.
