Solo Open at Fishers Green Sailing Club

by John Strange 27 Sep 2005 17:00 BST 25 September 2005

Early morning rain had disappeared before ten visitors and 28 local helms took to the water. Race officer Brian Conroy set three good courses for the day’s racing from committee boat starts.

Race 1 - started on time at 11.am in a force 2-3 which was up and down with sunny intervals. There was a clean start which soon became a three-horse race between Mark, Dan and Vince with some of the others deciding to practice their capsizing drill!

Race 2 - a new course was set after lunch in a force 2-3 with lovely sunny weather. Vince had to do a couple of turns while Mark established a great lead and held it to the finish, almost catching the tail-enders. Dan came in second but the Horey brothers had a battle for third place.

Race 3 - this was held back to back with the previous race. Another new course and a very keen start resulted in a general recall. The fleet soon split into three groups with Mark just managing to come into first place by passing Vince on the last but one leg.

Overall Results:

1st 4571 Mark Maskell (Fishers Green S.C.)
2nd 4322 Dan Goodman (Kingsmead S.C.)
3rd 4327 Vince Horey (Fishers Green S.C.)
4th 4135 Terry Horey (Fishers Green S.C.)
1st lady 4215 Claire Clark (Fishers Green S.C.)
1st sail number under 4000 3988 Peter Downham (Fishers Green S.C.)
