Chris & Corky Rhodes take line honours in Kinsale

Father and son duo Corky and Chris Rhodes have taken line honours in the first leg of the Yachting Monthly Triangle Race, from Torquay, England to Kinsale, Ireland. The pair sailing the Sunfast 3600, Footloose II, have taken just over 48 hours to complete the leg.

The double-handed race, which started in Torquay at 14:00 on Sunday, takes the thirty entered yachts first to Kinsale in southern Ireland, then on to Treguier, Brittany in northern France, before returning to Torquay.

Corky and Chris Rhode have lead the fleet since shortly after the start, fighting off a strong challenge from another father and son pair, Mark and Walter Hipgrave also in a Sunfast 3600.

The Rhodes family are representing Exmouth's Exe Sailing Club, while the Hipgraves are from the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Brisbane, Australia.

The second leg starts from Kinsale at midday Friday 17th June, with the final leg leaving Treguier at 17:00, Wednesday 22nd June.
