Building upon the success of the 2015 New South Wales Youth Championships, Georges River Sailing Club has been announced as the host for the 2016 regatta to be held from 1-3 October.

Several hundred competitors are expected to descend upon the waters of Botany Bay over the long weekend to compete in over ten classes. Sailors come from every State and Territory in Australia for the NSW Youth Championships, making it one of the biggest State Championships in Australia.

Georges River Sailing Club Commodore Andrew McLachlan said hosting the event is a massive boost for their club and they welcome the opportunity to set the scene for competitors and their families.

"The New South Wales Youth Championships is one of the highlights of the sailing calendar for Georges River Sailing Club," McLachlan said.

"Having hundreds of sailors and their families come from all over Australia for the October long weekend brings all the club members, the local community, and our local business together in the best way possible."

The Notice of Race will be online mid-June with entries taken online so book it into your calendar now. Australian Sailing Team Performance Manager, Mark Robinson said that the State Youth Championships provide a pivotal stepping stone for athletes to put their best foot forward and for coaches to identify that talent.

"With more than 350 boats expected, it's a great opportunity for young sailors to catch up with their sailing friends and have fun, while testing their skills against a wide range of competitors.

"Events such as the New South Wales Youth Championships also provide our regional coaches with access to the best sailing talent in the State and country all in one location.

"It is a great opportunity for our coaches to get out and amongst the up and coming youth sailors while providing competitors with necessary facilities to do what they enjoy, sailing." Robinson added.
