Solo and Enterprise Open at Twickenham Yacht Club

by Peter Sharp 12 May 2016 08:53 BST 8 May 2016

Visitors from five different clubs came to Twickenham for the biennial Solo and Enterprise open meeting on Sunday 8 May. The forecast was promising with a hot day and strong easterly wind and the sailing did not disappoint.

The blustery conditions meant some close and energetic racing with the gaps between boats growing and closing quickly. The morning involved two short races back to back, featuring some close battles in both classes. After very welcome bacon rolls at lunch most competitors returned for a longer race in the afternoon with wind conditions now including drifting conditions at the upwind mark.

In the Solo class Andrew Boyce of Papercourt SC won the first two races, retaining the Solo Salver for another two years. Following him was Godfrey Clarke of Fishers Green SC and Terry Palmer of Upper Thames SC in third. The Enterprise class was won by Chris Rowsell and Teresa Burton of Lensbury SC with Alex and David Cane of Minima YC in second and Stephen Tallis and Ed Skinner of Twickenham YC in third.
