10 May 2016
All of the conditions were against the race team for the 4th race in the Evening Race Series.
A dying breeze thick unpredictable fog banks a strong ebb tide and a larger than normal flow of commercial shipping leaving Southampton (including the three queens: Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary 2)
Much of the superstructure of the ships veiled in fog as they passed Prince Consort buoy.
At 1745hrs the non-engine day boats were abandoned and by 1800hrs it was deemed unsafe to even send the larger yachts out into the fog.
Abandonment text messages and emails were sent to all boats, broadcasts were made on the VHF Radio and messages were put on Facebook and Twitter as well as all the proper flag and sound signals.
