RS200 SEAS Open at Bough Beech Sailing Club

by Julian Bradley 13 Apr 2016 21:24 BST 9 April 2016

If a journalist is someone without any ideas, but the ability to express them, and a writer whose skill is improved by a deadline; the more time he has, the worse he writes. So it is I have been reminded by Sally at RS to write a race report on the latest RS200 SEAS event at Bough Beech, Saturday 9th April.

Fourteen teams were there for a light westerly, which gradually turned south as the day went on - probably leaving the estimable Race Officer munching horse tranquilliser.

Race 1 was won by Will Taylor and Fiona Mulcahy from the evergreen Dave Derby (well, some of his needles have shed). I managed to get a DSQ – it is said that a happy person is the one who can enjoy the scenery, even when they have to take a detour. It does mean you miss the briefing. That I forgot to sail through the windward gate is just senility.

Race 2 witnessed a close battle for the lead in which Cafferata and I prevailed from Taylor and Derby.

The wind filled in considerably for races 3 and 4, won by Taylor and Derby respectively (more admin failure aboard my boat). Will Taylor won well overall from Derby. Craig Taylor and Niami Davies were consistent with two 4ths and two 3rds to take 3rd.

Thanks go to the people at Bough Beech for a very well run event, with the Race Officer managing to make the right decisions at the right time, and no fannying around. Even if some of that involved my DSQ...
