Hornets set for Herne Bay for 2016 Europeans & Nationals

by Dawn Barsley-Dale 6 Mar 2016 15:52 GMT 6-9 August 2016

Come and join us at the 2016 Hornet Europeans/Nationals from the 6th August to 9th August. Not only are we planning amazing racing, there is free camping on site with free parking as well as evening events and the Herne Bay Carnival! Why don't you join us?

Hosted by Herne Bay Sailing Club, on the North Kent coast, the venue is less than 15 minutes from the end of the M2 motorway, 45 minutes from the M25 and only 40 minutes from Dover and the European ferries.

Their great catering, cheap bar and wonderful sailing water makes this an event not to be missed. As a visitor, Herne Bay has traditional seaside magic. Two miles of splendid seafront offer seaside favourites in the shape of candyfloss, ice cream parlours, cafés, friendly pubs and fish and chip bars as well as the ancient sandstone cliffs of nearby Reculver. Here you can find the imposing 12th century Reculver towers and Roman fort provide an amazing backdrop and the beaches here provide a quiet alternative.

As well as inviting you and our European contingent, we are inviting the historic Hornet fleet (and there is an amazing amount of history to this high performance class!) to come and play with their own trophies as well a Concours d'Elegance – it's all to play for!

A full social programme is being planned including a full-on BBQ class dinner – keep your eyes peeled on the Hornet Facebook Group for the theme on that one...

So, as an event not to be missed:

  • Great sailing
  • Competitive at a high level
  • Friendliest class on the circuit
  • Historic Boats welcome with own prizes
  • European Prizes
  • Friendly Club
  • Cheapest bar in town
  • Easy Access
  • Free camping
  • Reasonably priced food
  • Free parking
