The Albacore International Regatta incorporating the UK National Championships started today (Sunday) at Lyme Regis with a sunny Force 2 Easterly for the 74 boat entry from the USA, Canada, and all pints of the UK.

In the first race - Breitling Trophy - a 15-20 degrees Southerly wind shift caught many out with Lyme junior member Alice Rook (sailing three-up!) crewed by Naomi White and Charlotte Butler led half way up the first beat. Chris Turner and Sim on Maguire from the home club however, led around the first mark and went on to win from Mike McNamara and Robin Barker in second and Mike Holmes crewed by Colin smith in third.

In the second race - the Lock Trophy- Chris Turner and Simon Maguire led all the way around only to be pipped at the finish by Mike McNamara and Robin Barker. The approaching low pressure weather system caused major wind shifts and pressure changes from one side of the course to the other.

Current National Champions Neville Herbert and Steve Penfold dropped from second to third, whilst USA Champions Barney Harris and David Byron fell from third to fourth places.
