Aldeburgh Classic Weekend at Aldeburgh Yacht Club - Preview

Aldeburgh Yacht Club are pleased to announce that they will be holding their first "Classics" weekend over the weekend of 3rd and 4th of September 2016. The event will be open to both Classic Dinghies and Dayboats with a number of separate starts.

With so many traditional local classes on the East Coast it is hoped as many as possible will attend. The club itself has thriving fleet's of Loch Longs, Classic Dragons, Swallows and the 12ft Aldeburgh Lapwing. We hope we will be joined in the Dayboats by Waldringfield Dragonflys, Broads O/Ds and Brightlingsea One Designs.

On the Dinghy front we are expecting some early I14s, Merlins, National 12s and Norfolk 14s the only rule is "Designed before 1965 and built before 1985".

So if it floats bring it! Racing will be on the picturesque River Alde and free camping will be available on site.

Definitely a date for next years diary.

Ian Robson proved unstoppable, sailing single-handed The Aldeburgh Lapwing dinghy is 75 years old this year. 77 boats have been built of which about 25 are still sailing. 12 boats sailed 4 races over the weekend of 13/14th August in near perfect conditions to contest the annual championship.
