With Windermere School ruled out of action by the Cumbrian floods the RYA North/Midlands Feva squad spent a second weekend enjoying the hospitality of Leigh and Lowton SC who kindly came to the rescue and offered to host the coaching weekend at very short notice.
This year's squad is once again being Coached by 'Dave n Dave' – Dave Woodhead and Dave Eccles worked with the squad last year and the kids are delighted to have them back again this year.
There's a lot more 'girl power' in this squad and the girls are certainly showing that they can push the boys in terms of performance on the water. It's good to see some more mixed crews too.
After an incredibly windy first session back in November the wind was kinder for the session on 12/13 December but it was bitingly cold and the sailors and their coaches did well to cope with long hours out on the water, and a fair few capsizes for the sailors too. Sessions this weekend focused on spinnaker handling techniques with some really intensive training paying dividends in the end of weekend races.
Mugs of hot chocolate provided great hand and tummy warmers and were in big demand as the sailors came ashore.
The squad meet up again in January when they will visit Beaver Sailing Club.
