Liga Layar Malaysia at Port Klang - Overall

by Norzuhaira Ruhanie 15 Nov 2015 09:32 GMT 13-15 November 2015

The road to glory

The penultimate leg of the Liga Layar Malaysia (LLM) 2015 drew to a close today with top-ranked Hazwan Hazim Dermawan leading hazOne Racing Team closer the grand prize of a spot in the next Monsoon Cup Malaysia.

The 28-year old skipper won his fifth LLM leg honours for the year, competing against three new match-racing teams in Port Klang.

"They gave a good fight but were inexperienced in the tactical and strategy aspects of match-racing. We managed to practice our manoeuvring on board and improve our team work in preparation for Monsoon Cup Malaysia but will need more racing time to be more prepared," said Hazwan Runner-up goes to Selangor entrant Sahril Abdul Razak and Siput Racing Team. Sahril had a mixed last day, winning three and losing three races, which translated into a total of eight wins from 15 races.

"We enjoyed the experience, which is different from fleet racing. The pressure was more intense but we hope to participate again in future LLM regattas," Sahril said.

Megat Ahmad Aslam Megat Azman of Bakat Racing Team were third in Port Klang with a total of six wins. Captaining a team of new sailors was a challenge from the start but the young skipper was able to guide his crew to a modest performance in their debut.

"It is not hard to teach new sailors, provided they have the passion and courage to learn. My team was impressive in the sense that they were able to perform a tough task on the water and managed a few wins in the process," said Megat Aslam.

Fourth-placed Mohd Rashidee Shariff and Muara Watersport Team had no joy today with no wins to add to their single victory recorded on Saturday. However, Rashidee is taking the positives from the experience.

"Our teamwork was very good but we need more time to adapt to one another. I look forward to the next leg and we should be more prepared for it," Rashidee said.

As champion of this leg, Hazwan Hazim received RM6,000 in prize money while Sahril won RM4,000. Megat Aslam took home RM3,000 and Rashidee pocketed RM1,000 for his efforts.

Prizes were given away by Selangor Yachting Association Vice President Hj Hairuddin Hassan, who is also Malaysia Sailing Association Selection Committee Member.
