Abersoch Mirror Week 2015 at South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club

This year Abersoch Mirror Week was held during the same week and at the same location as the Mirror Nationals in Abersoch. It turned out to be a great week in the bay with 87 Mirrors on the water.

The Mirror Week fleet consisted of 44 boats ranging from new to old boats, competitors from 3 years of age to 63 years of age, a combination of bermudian & gaff rigs and a mixture of white sails only and use of spinnakers.

Monday was Day 1 and unfortunately racing was abandoned due to high winds but as the wind abated during the very latter part of the day an ad-hoc race was organised and run by John Hodges who was keen to get as many as possible of the fleet on the water. The race was a complete success and made a big contribution to the week – well done John.

After missing Monday's racing Andy Teague, organiser, social secretary and PRO, started a huge effort to catch up the racing during the rest of the week. Andy specialises in early course set-up, quick turnarounds between races, efficient crew swapping and team/beach management and was able to make up the race loss.

The racing was competitive all week throughout the fleet. Three boats were very consistent throughout the week. A two times SB20 world champion, an eight times dinghy and keelboat national champion and Dave Shiel with their kids were quick all week sharing the podium. A couple of Sheffield Vikings were also on the podium during the week.

The social side of the week was again a big hit this year. On beach BBQs, the Mirror Drive and beach games topped the week off and made the event a truly unmissable event for future years.

The event this year said goodbye to Andy – after 7 years it is time to pass on the baton. Well done Andy and good luck in whatever you choose to get involved in next.
