by Elena Giolai 31 Oct 2015 06:38 GMT 29 October - 1 November 2015

Eurocup 2015 leaders Janezic & Podlogar of Slovenia take the lead

It was a beautiful day of bright sunshine at Riva del Garda for the second day of the Garda Eurocup, the tenth leg of the European 29er tour with 74 crews taking part. Two races were held this morning with northerly winds with gusts reaching 14 knots, while this afternoon one race was held with much lighter winds from the south. Five races have been completed so far for the two fleets who have to wait for two more races in order to qualify for the Gold and Silver fleets.

Taking the lead, but tied on points are Slovenians Janezic-Podlogar who are also the leaders in the standings of the tour. They made quite a comeback by taking a 4-1-1 today after an eighth and a fourth on the first day. In second place, also with eight points, are Norwegians Tomas and Mads Mathisen (1-2-8) ahead of Brits Beaumont-Darling(3-1-12) third. Dropping into fourth place are Swedes Kraft-Alm. After taking two firsts on the first day they placed 4-16-6 today.

Italians Zampiccoli-Chistè performed well in this morning's two races with an 8-5 scoreline, demonstrating the strong potential of this crew from neighbouring Arco. They had to show steady form this afternoon to reach the top ten; they took a 17th which nevertheless allowed them to gain 4 places in the standings bringing them to 16th place overall. Racing starts Saturday morning at 8:30.
