Leader Open at Buckenham Sailing Club

Buckenham SC on the river Yare, near Norwich hosted an Open Meeting over the weekend 13/14 August for the Leader class. The Leaders’ current and last year’s National Champions were amongst the visitors from Chichester, Milton Keynes, Hickling and Aldbrough.

Saturday racing was a passage race down river to Cantley. Janet Gilmour won by about a foot from John Barton with Mike Sherwen a further foot back in third. Races don’t come much closer! Sherwen won the return leg from Gilmour and Barton.

On Sunday the Leaders enjoyed a passage race upriver around Rockland Broad. Sherwen winning from Andy Cullum and Mike Fitzgerald. The Leaders finished with two round the cans races. Cullum won the first from Sherwen and Wharmby won the second from Cullum with Sherwen third. The

3rd Chris Wharmby (Milton Keynes) 13¾pts

Leader nationals at Reading overall
Three final races held on Sunday Day 2 started with Race 3 in light and shifty conditions with the wind constantly moving between a SW and NW direction. The course started with a very short beat to windward, followed by a zig-zag down the lake before returning on a broad reach. Posted on 7 Sep 2015
