RS Tera Scottish Championship at Dalgety Bay Sailing Club

by Robbie Wilson 10 Sep 2015 18:48 BST 5-6 September 2015

The second ever Scottish Championship took place at Dalgety Bay SC on 5/6th Sept with an amazing 34 young sailors competing in Tera sport and Pro rigs. We were lucky with the weather with glorious sunshine and winds all weekend. With competitors from North England joining the Scottish fleet we were in for a cracker of a weekend of racing.

With a shifty force 2 on the Saturday with winds from the North, getting the shifts and staying in the breeze was key. In the pros, Roscoe Martin from Ogston was leading with 1/1/2 With Ewan Wilson from Wormit BC just behind with 3/3/1 and Tom Storey from Ripon SC in third. Ross Mauritzen had a really good consistent day with three fourth places. In the Sports Tatiana Dickinson from Derwent was leading with 1/1/2 with Oliver Kent and Ellie Clark and Josh Manning close behind, although Ollie had used up his discard losing a protest. In the novice regatta coached fleet we had a great day with some coaching a trip round the island meeting many seals sunbathing, then some races with Sean Rutherford from Bardowie CCC winning the day with some good wins and an excellent dance on the boat at the finish for an extra point, closely followed by Katie McGhie with a race win, and Max Zomerdijk.

Sunday dawned after an excellent night at club with local musicians, friendly stocked bar and some dodgy Dad dancing with the old and grumpy RS400 fleet! With a steadier westerly force 3/4 wind and sun we were in for a cracker of a day of sailing. Ewan Wilson led round the first lap of the pros closely followed by Roscoe and Tom, with Roscoe powering over the top of Ewan upwind to win. Roscoe went into overdrive for next two races winning with big margins from Tom and Ewan with Cameron Staughan enjoying the windier conditions with a close fourth place. In the sports it was a close competition between Ollie and Tatiana with Ollie coming out on top on all three races to win the regatta from Tatiana and Ellie Clark. Special mention to Benedict Entwhistle, Tom Irving and Patrick Mulderry for sailing well in their first Tera event. In the novice regatta fleet we had a morning of attempted coaching, capsizing and lots of smiley faces!! In the afternoon we ran some races with Nick Edwards sailing well to win all races from a smiley Lottie Moss from Dalgety and Ben Edwards from Largo Bay SC. Everyone improved loads over the day and were really confident sailingin the increased wind as the day went on, well done to all.
