The curtain is about to be lifted for the first SSL Lake Grand Slam, which will officially get underway with a prestigious Opening Ceremony at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.
250 guests will attend the Press Conference including Olympic Champions, renowned athletes, ISAF officials and SSL Authorities. Details of the Star Sailors League and plans for the future will be unveiled. SSL is very proud to announce that IOC President, Thomas Bach, has confirmed his presence and will close the Press Conference.
Thomas Bach will cut the ribbon to the new Sailing Exhibition at the Olympic Museum. Seven Olympic Champions have donated original racing attire. SSL has been a big promoter of the new Sailing Exhibition, including donating a special surprise to be unveiled tonight.
The Olympic Museum, with its treasures, will be open just for SSL Guests from 6 to 9 pm, which will be the perfect start to the keenly anticipated inaugural SSL Lake Grand Slam.
SSL Lake Grand Slam: Racing (starting September 9th Start 09:30 ECT)
With an astounding 13 Olympic medallists, all on one race track, the Star Sailors League has attracted a stellar cast of Olympic, World and European Champions for the first ever SSL Lake Grand Slam. Over 70 teams will be competing from 25 different countries.
All of the racing will be captured live using the latest media technology, delivering first class coverage, freely available, via the internet.
The Prize Purse for the SSL Lake Grand Slam is US$100,000 shared between the top twenty teams. Nine races are scheduled for all teams over three days, followed by the top 11 teams contesting the knock-out stage on Saturday 12th September.
This fourth and final day will feature, three knockout stages: one-race sudden-death eliminators. The last four progress to the final race, with the winning team taking US$25,000 and crowned Swiss National Champions.
As part of the SSL program of regattas, the SSL Lake Grand Slam will be the final point scoring regatta towards qualification for the SSL Final in Nassau in December.

Full coverage of all four days of action starting tomorrow morning at 9.25 (ECT) will be streamed live on the internet, with expert commentary from special studio guests, including Dennis Conner. On the water, the latest in hi-tech camera technology, as well as Virtual Eye 3D Graphics, will provide thrilling viewing. Armchair sailors can also race the course with Virtual Regatta.
