Selden 2020 - LEADERBOARD

Selden 70th Merlin Rocket Championships at Whitstable - Day 4

by Tim Fells 26 Aug 2015 16:13 BST 22-28 August 2015

A big forecast and an estuary covered with white horses led to a one hour postponement to allow the PRO to get afloat and make a decision. He concluded the pitch was playable and we were sent out into an increasingly strong southwester.

At the first recalled start, conditions were top end but manageable but by the time of the next start sequence gusts of well over 30 knots were raking the course. With a number of boats upside down and two having already lost their masts to the shallow bottom, the PRO decided to send us home.

While this decision was no doubt correct for the majority of the fleet, Nick and Alan, Taxi and Alex, and Stu and Tom stayed out to provide a high wind masterclass for the mere mortals ashore to behold.

Two races will now be sailed on Thursday and Friday to complete the series.
