Carbon rigs are nothing new, they are now common practice and perhaps most interestingly nobody launches a new class these days without a carbon rig. There is a requirement to seem modern but also to maximise the potential of a boats performance even if it comes with inherent cost.
There is no doubt that carbon spars are remarkable and a modern I14 mast can now weight as little as 6kg. They can also be constructed with no holes and fixed spreaders to maximise strength while minimising weight and drag. It’s a technical subject and can prove to be a bit of a minefield. Luckily we have all the knowledge and expertise required to help you with purchasing a new rig. Whether you are upgrading an old one or have damaged your current one we can repair composite spars with a finish of the highest standard.
Selden and Superspar
P&B have a long running relationship with Selden and Superspar in supplying championship winning spars in both aluminium and composite materials. We fit them out to P&B proven specifications and back it up by our tuning and sail manufacturing knowledge you can expect a service second to none!
P&B work closely with Selden and Super Spars to formulate fast spar and sail packages which have won many World, European and National Championships during 2014. Whether you choose to purchase from our Northampton HQ or south coast site in Fareham you can be assured of a rig finished to the elite standard supplied by P&B for the last 25 years.
Paragon Composites
P&B are now the UK distributor for Paragon Composites. This is an exciting development for P&B as Paragon have been making great progress over the past few years so it is great to be working with them to make the products readily available to the UK. Prototypes have already produced great results; finishing 2nd at the Contender World Championships and dominating the top places at the Merlin Nationals in recent years.
With kits being stocked and completed in house by our composite spar experts, we are excited to be able to supply spars on a short lead time, built to an excellent standard and competitively priced.
Spar Repair and Refurbishing
One of the greatest things about carbon spars is they can be repaired and maintained to improve longevity. Sorting your carbon products when a problem first becomes evident and maintaining the mast coating will make for a mast that will last far longer.
P&B South offer a mast coating service for £200 which will ensure the resin is protected preventing breakdown and eventual failure. In the event that the worse does happen we can repair your mast quickly with an excellent standard of strength and finishing.
Rigging and Halyards
Years of providing finished masts means P&B have the best record of rigging and halyard lengths for UK classes. We can provided complete rigging packs with your new mast to our winning specifications or can provide replacements of individual items where required.
