Bruce Wake Hansa European Championships at Rutland Sailability Day 3

by Joshua Bently 10 Jul 2015 22:53 BST 8-11 July 2015

We're heading towards the end of the 2015 Bruce Wake European Championships. With scorching sunshine on the agenda for the third racing day, the single person 303 got on the water early, as did the Liberty boats.

Wind picked up to 10-12 knots allowing the racing to get underway in a competitive manner.

Unfortunately, for GBR competitor, Melvin Kinnear, he was towed back to land after his mast broke mid race. The fleets were on the water for around 3 hours as they completed 3 races. It was a superb day for Paul Phillips (GBR) in the Liberty fleet, as he won all 3 of today's Liberty races, which resulted in him overtaking Monique Foster in the standings. Paul now leads by 7 points.

The single person 303 races ended which Aussie, Michael Leydon finished 3rd and 1st respectively, as he ended the day top of the standings leaving the other competitors with work to do going into the final day.

It heated up in the afternoon, as the double person 303 fleet took to the water. Emphatic Hungarian pair, Zoltan Pegan and Eva Mircsev that led the standings beforehand, went onto finish the day maintaining that position as they won one and finished second in the other race.

The SKUD 18 boats had to two races today. Polish duo, Monika Gibes and Piotr Cichocki kept to their trend winning both of their races today. They hold a 100% win record so far in the Championships and hope to keep it up going into the final day. They are 4 points ahead of the second place pairing.
