Commodore's Weekend at Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club - Preview

by Kate Mellor 10 Jul 2015 16:00 BST 11-12 July 2015

Yorkshire Dales have a busy weekend ahead with club racing, the annual prize giving and a BBQ on Saturday night as part of Erica Caswell's first Commodore's weekend, but one of the main highlights will be the presentation of RYA Club Champion Status by British Podium Potential Laser squad sailor, Henry Wetherell.

The club will receive official accreditation and branding of an RYA Centre of Excellence and will be presented with a commemorative club plaque and flag (as well as official branding rights) in the presentation by Henry.

The club currently sponsors 5 youth sailors, and with the addition of the club champion status, more youth and junior sailors can advance and improve through training and coaching sessions and advice the RYA can provide.

As part of the weekend, the club will hold its annual prize giving of the previous season's sailing trophies as well as a new addition of the volunteer prizes, which recognise members for their services to the club in a non-sailing capacity.

During the course of the weekend there'll be a stand alone races series - The Commodore's Cup, with prizes (three races on Saturday and three on Sunday with 3 discards, so if people can only sail one day, they still get results to count), beginners training on Saturday morning and Improvers in the afternoon, a bouncy castle for the kids, Grimwith Galley will be open for Saturday and Sunday lunch as well as a social in the evening with BBQ and catering from Rural Recipes, prize giving for the 2014 race series and volunteer awards, plus 30 minute physio taster sessions with Paragon Physiotherapy on Sunday.
