Itchenor Sailing Club hosted their 420 open meeting this last weekend in glorious sun and good breezes. This was the third of the new short course coached racing series recently introduced by the class, to provide a balance between the pressures of the class championships, which often act as selection events for squads and international teams, and class training or club sailing.
Itchenor welcomed a good mix of boats – half of the team who are heading out to the world championships in Japan later this week, alongside some sailors new to the class from their junior fleets. The on the water coaches provided tips and support during and in between races so sailors can learn within a racing environment.
The PRO set 12 courses across the 2 days, giving the fleet plenty of start practice, and some close racing. The sailors and their parents all enjoyed a BBQ at the home of a local family on Saturday evening.
Overall Results: (top three)
1st Jo Kalderon (Itchenor SC) and Will Birch-Tomlinson (Hayling Island SC)
2rd Jenny Smallwood (Datchett SC) and Danielle Thomas (Royal Lymington SC)
3rd Rebecca Stephens (Penzance SC) and Niamh O Neill (Restronguet SC)
