4-5 July 2015
Last weekend saw the Island Sailing Club hosting its first weekend of the Cowes Keelboat Series and the Long Solent Race of the Inshore Series.
It was good to see a reasonable turnout of XODs on both days with the most successful boat being Delight (Mike Till) who scored a first and a second, with Seamist next with a first and a third. In the Darings, Decoy had a first and a second, beaten on Sunday by Dauntless by almost three minutes having lost out substantially on the last run of the course. Disappointingly, only two Dragons appeared on Saturday with Furious beating Chime II by less than a minute but on Sunday, the Old Bailey beat Chime II a further seven minutes behind.
The long Solent Race started with a four mile beat against the strong tide which took the slower boats almost two hours with the complete 22 mile course lasting only about five hours for most. In the IRC class, Alamara B III (Ole Bettum) took line honours and saved her time against Joker (Nick and Edward White) with Alchemist (Mark Wynter) third. In the ISCRS class, only three of the four boats called OCS returned to start properly and Thunder Squall (Julian James) had a huge win on corrected time with Star-Born 4 (Peter Dickson) some way behind with Dabra (Ian Millar) third.
