Bala Long Distance Handicap Race 2015

by John Hunter 23 Jun 2015 10:14 BST 20-21 June 2015

Two laps, just about right, for the 42 boats that entered Saturday's Bala Long distance race, which the fastest boat, an RS700 completed in about 2 hours and the last boat did in 3 hours.

The forecast for the event was for very light winds but on the day we had a perfect 15mph straight down the lake.

The RO set a fairly simple course, a 3 mile beat, followed by a 2 mile run then a few nice reaches to finish the lap.

First on the water was the RS700, but after the number crunching, the win went to a 2000 sailed by John & Sarah Haywood, then the RS Vareos sailed by Dan Partington & Aled Goddard, followed by the RS700 of Mike Allen, then his brother Paul in a K1, all from Bala SC.

Only 13 boats stayed for Sunday event a similar handicap race but over a shorter course with more laps. The win went to John Haywood again but now in a laser, followed by Ruth Walker & Harry Ashworth from Bartley SC in a Javelin, then Lydon Beasley & Sam Frost-Huskinson from Greensforge SC in a Fireball.

In 4th place came Richie Allan from Bala in a K1.

When the events were combined the overall win went to Ruth Walker & Harry Ashworth in the Javelin.
