Noble Marine 2000 Class Inland Championships at Grafham Water

by Richard Hudson 18 Jun 2015 09:59 BST 13-14 June 2015

The 2000 class held its annual Inland Championships, sponsored by Noble Marine, at Grafham Water Sailing Club over the weekend of 13-14 June.

The first race on the Saturday set the tone for the weekend being very light and shifty. Local sailors James and Jenny Macgregor led from the gun. After successfully avoiding the ever present holes in the wind at Grafham they went on to the win by a country mile from Helen and Andrew Phillips, with Simon Horsfield and Tom Bernal showing some experienced covering on the beats to come third.

The wind then shut off for the rest of the day, so we all went for tea and cake courtesy of Noble Marine and the 2000 Class Association.

Overnight, depending on who you talked to, the forecast for Sunday was for 10-12 knots from the North. Someone forgot to tell the lake this. What we really had was a an extraordinarily shifty 0-5 knots vaguely from the North-ish.

Simon and Tom and showed their class all day by winning all 4 races (except when OCS in a race). The Macgregors kept up their good form nailing second overall with some consistent results, with Helen and Andrew third.

Thanks must go to Grafham for a well run event both on and off the water.
