Laser 5000s at the Jollen Cup - Chiemsee, Germany

by Laser 5000 Class Association 9 Jul 2005 12:04 BST 2-3 July 2005

2 British crews competed against the German 5000 fleet on the scenic Bavarian lake of Chiemsee, near Munich over the weekend of 2/3rd of July.

Race 1 was held in 11-14 knots of breeze, with Stefan Hammermuller picking the shifts up the first beat to round the windward mark. Martin Wadsworth and James Fisher in GBR 5300 rounded in second place and despite attempting to chase down the leaders were unable to find sufficient breeze to overtake.

In the second race held in 6-9 knots, Germany managed to take all 3 podium places with 5060 winning again, Marcus and Florian Wohrer taking 2nd place, and Fritz Utz in GER 5222 taking 3rd.

Race 3 saw Wadsworth / Fisher take 2nd place behind light wind specialist Hammermueller while Race 4 saw German boats filling the top 4 place as GBR 5300 was adjudged to be too eager out of the blocks.

After the fleet descended on the Icekeller nightclub with the Brits winning the Absolut and Red Bull drinking competition, the fleet somehow amazingly started on time for the remaining 2 races in very light winds. GER 5060 wrapped up the series winning both remaining races with Wadsworth / Fisher taking 2 more second places to finish 2nd overall.
