Island Sailing Club Evening Racing Series - Day 1

21 April 2015
The Island Sailing Club Evening Race Series started again with a fine evening and a force 4 from the SE. 52 boats turned out and used the end of the ebb tide for their starts. One ISC Sonar skippered by Chris Magier was seen aground in the small boat channel, but was pulled off by the ISC rib, reminding us all that it was a very low spring tide, and possibly not the last grounding we'll see this year. Sadly they didn't get to the start line in time to race, but went round the course anyway as it was their first night out.
This year, much to their delight the X One Designs have been paired up with the Flying Fifteens for their starts so as to move them away from some of the larger handicap boats in Class 4.
All courses were set to the east with Class 1 going to Peel Bank.
By 1945hrs the wind had dropped and the Chief Race Officer took the decision to shorten courses for classes one and four. The shades of evening were falling fast and only a few boats could be seen returning around Old Castle Point. As the light faded the Rib was used to identify sail numbers as they crossed the finish line.
The last boat to finish crossed the line at 21:00:30 in complete darkness.
