Cadet World Championships at Sanxenxo, Spain - Overall

by Steve Proffitt 26 Jul 2005 12:20 BST 16-25 July 2005

The Cadet world championships have been held in Sanxenxo, Spain from the 16th to the 26th of July and have been totally dominated by British Boats. James Rusden and Erin Clark have been crowned the new Cadet world champions with Stephen Videlo and Aaron Woolf second with Stephen Tiernan and Hugo Pullen 4th. Our seven strong British team all finished in the top twelve places in a truly international fleet of 69 boats.

Running alongside the world championships was a promotional regatta for up-and-coming Cadet sailors. In a fleet of 72, British boats filled the top 13 places. Jenny Lennon and Jamie Lambe finishing first with Joshua Pistol/Jamie Proffitt second and Aaron Cooper/Jack Wilson third.

Adam Bowers, RYA cadet National Coach and GBR Team Manager, said ‘This is a fantastic result for British junior sailing’ and bodes well for 2012 I was hugely impressed with the professionalism displayed on the water, not only in the world team, but also in the promotional fleet. Ian Videlo, Cadet Chairman, said this is an exceptional week for British cadets and we should be very proud to have a 15 year old world champion in such a competitive fleet.
