Sailing has started again at Llandegfedd Reservoir after major investment of over £2.5M by Dwr Cymru/Welsh water. There is now a new multi-user Water Sports Centre and a Visitor Centre. No longer will we be operating out of shipping containers and Portacabins!
The reservoir has been closed for 18 months during this construction work, so some of Llandegfedd Sailing Club members have taken much appreciated hospitality at Tata Steel SC and Llangorse SC. Some sailors felt driven further, with active racing as far afield as Belgium and San Francisco.
It is good to be back, and of course far less travelling for most. Full access starts on 1 April, which coincides nicely with the start of Wednesday evening club sailing. After that there is a jam packed programme for the year.
Work is under way by sailors to complete the relaying of the fixed buoys, organising the large committee boat, and updating the training procedures with the new facilities. As the whole site has been under the bulldozers and earth movers, there has been a lot of work and complete relaying of the roads and paths by Welsh Water's contractors.
Amongst the events we will host in 2015 are:
- A Re-launch Open meeting on 11 & 12 April – the countdown has started!
- RYA Push The Boat Out
- Topper Welsh Championship at the end of May
- International Canoe Welsh Championship in July
- President's weekend in September - which is part of the RYA Cymru Wales' Regional Grand Prix
- RS Vareo Inland Championship also in September
