Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club looks forward to summer

by Brigitte Mann 17 Mar 2015 18:02 GMT 17 March 2015

Events for all the family on and off the water

As the long dark days of winter draw to a close Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club is looking forward to a bumper summer season both on and off the water. The sailing season begins with a splash on 29 March with the Three Rivers race – a thirteen-mile pursuit race starting at noon. Then in early April the dinghy summer racing series starts on 6 April and takes place every Monday and Thursday evening until the end of August. Yacht racing begins on 14 April and the regular Tuesday night races in the Hamoze and the Harbour are interspersed with longer races to the James Egan Layne wreck and to Fowey. Will Dave the dolphin join in with the sailing again after two visits during the Spring series?

The windsurfing section meets on Tuesday evenings at 5.30 pm starting on 31 March. There are a series of Saturday beginner windsurf sessions too whilst anyone who is interested in scuba-diving should consider a try-dive. To learn more about the scuba diving section you can go along to the divers' club night at the clubhouse from 8pm on Wednesdays to meet the crew. The cadet section goes from strength to strength with the purchase of two new Feva dinghies, more in-house instructors and the continued support and donations from the Torpoint community including the 17.30 Club and Lloyds Bank.

Off the water the club's new social secretary Laurie Ingram has been working hard to arrange a full programme of events – everyone should find something to whet their appetite. Laurie said: "Our social programme has something for everyone. Torpoint Mosquito has always been a family club so our events reflect that too. We have something for all ages and interests starting with an Easter family day on 5 April with Easter bonnet competition, Easter egg hunt and far more. Our legendary beer festival takes place over the bank holiday weekend from 1 to 3 May. It's open to all and we have live music every day. We have children's and adult's Halloween discos planned for 31 October and in between we have a coffee morning and craft fair on 7 June, a charity fun weekend in aid of St Luke's Hospice on 28 and 29 August and a casino night on 19 September. Search for us on Facebook where we post details of all our events. The club welcomes new members. Anyone wishing to join the club should call in during normal bar hours, look around and pick-up a membership application form."
