Going Home – Ladybird moves up the ladder

The second leg of the NORD/LB Baltic Sprint Cup from Helsinki to Tallinn saw the fight going on. “Emil Reiseschwein” took the title and now leads overall after two legs. The 45 miles to Tallinn brought a third place for the homecoming crew from Estonian entry “Ladybird”.

A day that began slow and foggy in Helsinki, Finland ended with thrilling finishes and very tight results in the Estonian harbour of Tallinn. The fleet of 43 yachts sailed in very good conditions and the crews where happy to finally meet the wind at noon after a postponement of the start, due to fog.

It was the X-442 “Emil Reiseschwein” skippered by Stefan Hummelt, who took the title in overall results after around five hours of upwind sailing and a beautiful spinnaker finish. “Inschallah VI” by Volker Andreae on second place was followed very closely by the Estonian crew of “Ladybird”. Only three tiny seconds on corrected time made the difference in the end. “It is a very good feeling to come to our home country, and we are happy about the very good leg and result today”, said Erki Melts, Skipper of the Akton 395 “Ladybird”. The Estonian crew has won the same race last year, when sailing the annual Helsinki-Tallinn Regatta.

A very warm welcome greeted the crews when they came into the harbour of Tallinn, and after the race they talked over beer and sausages about the day’s race.

Final overall results of leg 2:

1. Emil Reiseschwein (Stefan Hummelt/ Buxtehude, Germany)
