Laser 2s at the Lancing Sailing Club Summer Regatta

The Laser 2 fleet enjoyed a range of conditions at their open meeting at Lancing this weekend.
Race 1 started in a solid SW F4 sea breeze – ideal Laser 2 weather – complimented by an excellent course. Former European champions, Nigel Skudder & Keith Hills powered into an early lead, followed by Mike & Di Croker. Behind these, Chris Foster & Steve Lynch began a race long battle with Mike Clapp & Mark Bond, the latter coming out on top.
Race 2 saw Skudder/Hills put on a repeat performance, with the Crokers overtaking Foster/Lynch when the latter had spinnaker ‘difficulties’.
Race 3 on Sunday saw place changes throughout as the light S wind backed to SE during one of the beats. Skudder/Hills had to work for this one, overtaking the Crokers on the last lap.
The wind stayed light and patchy for the remaining 2 races after lunch. Foster/Lynch recovered well from a premature start in Race 4 to get back to 3rd place; the Crokers again failing to best Skudder/Hills in various close encounters. That feat was to be performed by Foster/Lynch in Race 5, who lead from the start, despite Skudder/Hills’ best efforts.
