Annual Hangover Handicap at Crosby Sailing Club

by Crosby SC press office 12 Jan 2015 07:23 GMT 4 January 2015

Crosby SC held their Annual Hangover Handicap event on Sunday 4th January. The weather gods played ball. A bright, very crisp day with a light breeze saw a number of visitors coming from near and far, including Dee SC, West Lancs YC and Dundee Uni.

The open meeting start time of 11am caught some Crosby members on the hop expecting a noon start.

Once launched the fleet made down to the far end of the lake for a long full length beat, led off by the RS300 of Matt Mercer from Crosby. The flying Cherub of the Harris brothers from Dee played catch up due to finding a shall bank near to the start at 30 seconds to go. They powered through the fleet on the off wind legs, flying their bright pink masthead kite. A sight not seen for years on the lake. On handicap Steve Blackburn in his Streaker took the win from the 2 Graduates of Chris Parker and Ben Hill.

After a short warming lunch as the sailing sec punched in the results the fleet launched for Race 2 with 4 more boats. Again the fleet on the water was headed by the Cherub and RS300 flying in the fresher conditions. The Streakers and Graduates battling with a gaggle of lasers and solos.

On handicap it was Blackburn, the Enterprise of Charles Adams, Graduates of Hill and Parker followed by the 2.4M of Ian Middleton.

Race 3 was sailed straight after, and although the Cherub and 300 were again heading the fleet on the water. On handicap saw Blackburn clean sweep third win. The Lasers of Tim Mercer and James Middleton were second and third.

At the prize giving a short speech was made thanking the organisers by Steve Blackburn and bottles of wine for prizes.

The local RNLI will receive the race fees of over £100.
